Long Description
Wear resistant steel plate, commonly referred to as AR (Abrasion Resistant) plate, is manufactured through a controlled process of alloying, rolling, and subsequent heat treatment involving quenching and tempering. This process produces a martensitic or bainitic microstructure with a high surface hardness (typically measured in Brinell or Rockwell C scales) while maintaining a tough core to resist cracking under impact. The primary performance metric is its ability to withstand material loss from sliding, gouging, or high-stress abrasion caused by contact with minerals, aggregates, or other hard substances. Available in a range of standardized hardness grades (e.g., AR400, AR450, AR500), these plates offer a quantifiable balance between hardness (for wear life) and toughness (for structural integrity), allowing engineers to select the optimal grade for specific abrasion and impact conditions.
Key Product Highlights
Wear plates provide a dramatic increase in service life for components subjected to severe abrasive wear.
The product offers a favorable combination of high surface hardness and good through-thickness toughness.
It is available in standardized hardness grades with guaranteed minimum Brinell hardness values.
Plates can be supplied in the as-rolled, heat-treated, or pre-fabricated condition (e.g., flame-cut to shape).
Superior wear resistance reduces downtime, replacement costs, and improves operational efficiency.
Product Advantages
Guaranteed hardness values across the entire plate surface ensure consistent and predictable wear performance.
Good weldability with proper procedures allows for easy installation, hardfacing, or repair in the field.
The quenched and tempered structure provides better impact resistance compared to simply hardened steels.
Full material certification, including hardness and Charpy impact test reports, supports engineering design and quality control.
Available from stock in common sizes and grades, facilitating quick procurement for maintenance and repairs.
Industry Application
This plate is used for lining dump truck beds, excavator buckets, loader blades, crusher liners, hoppers, chutes, conveyor systems, shredder hammers, and other equipment components exposed to heavy abrasion.

Packaging & Surface Treatment
Plates are bundled on robust steel skids with protective wooden laths between each plate to prevent surface-to-surface contact and scratching. Bundles are securely strapped with heavy-duty steel bands. For high-grade materials, protective caps are used on the strapping. The surface is typically supplied blast-cleaned to Sa 2.5, free of mill scale, to facilitate inspection, marking, and welding. Some grades may have a temporary protective oil film.
